Our Mission is-

Together as partners, we will develop the site and facilities to provide a rich and exciting range of opportunities for environmental and horticultural education and healthy lifestyles, whilst conserving, managing and improving the built heritage and natural environment in our care 

Our Aims are to develop partnerships and joint-working for the purposes of

  • providing first-class environmental educational facilities and opportunities for all
  • promoting locally-grown healthy food
  • promoting healthy lifestyle opportunities, especially for young and older people
  • providing a range of environmental, educational and community events
  • securing the long-term financial viability of the site
  • improving and developing the management and maintenance of the Parrs Wood Rural Studies Centre site
  • providing leadership and setting a real example in taking positive steps to tackle the causes and effects of climate change
  • promoting the distinctiveness and advantages of locally grown food
  • contributing to and promoting a dynamic local economy
  • improving health, wellbeing and social inclusion

Priorities for Action 

The vision for the Parrs Wood Rural Studies Centre ten year management and development plan is to further increase and improve existing facilities and features, to provide  people with a horticultural and family oriented centre of excellence.

  This will require investment of finance and community volunteer time and will be focussed primarily towards achieving the agreed aims; 

  • Secure the funding for the long-term financial viability of the site
  • Provide first-class educational facilities and opportunities for all
  • Promote the distinctiveness and advantages of locally grown healthy food
  • Contribute to and promote a dynamic local economy through social enterprise
  • Promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing especially for young and older people
  • Work with partners and the community to improve the natural environment and biodiversity
  • Provide a range of environmental, educational and community events
  • Improve and develop the management and maintenance of the Parrs Wood Rural Studies Centre site
  • Provide leadership and set a real example in taking positive steps to tackle the causes and effects of climate change
  • Increase levels of visitors and community involvement
