Future Plans

The site currently has some valuable facilities and heritage features, but these are underexploited and it is the potential on which our development team wishes to concentrate.

We can picture:

  • A centre of excellence for environmental education and much more...
  • Managed by a partnership board of key stakeholders
  • The site providing a range of learning and development opportunities to both schools and the local community

As a centre of excellence for the whole community the centre will be developed and managed by a partnership board for the promotion of:

  • Science/life science studies
  • Environmental education and citizenship
  • Horticultural education/therapy
  • Nature conservation and biodiversity enrichment
  • Gardening, allotment, smallholding and horticultural best practice
  • Environmental and sustainability best practice
  • Community engagement in the local environment
  • Community activities centred on the arts
  • An event centre for community groups
Activities and improvements planned include:
  • Exending and replanting the herb garden, and adding wall trained fruit such as peaches and apricots
  • Opening up and managing the mixed woodland, firstly by restoring the network of paths.
  • Adding new classrooms/activity buildings
  • Improving and enlarging ornamental plantings
  • Adding toilets
  • Planting part of the meadow with bee and butterfly attracting flowers
  • Upgrading workshops
  • Installing equipment for the collection, storage and re-use of rain water
  • Installing solar panels
